You Only Need One YES!

You Just Need One YES Post.pngHey, Fam, in my 20 plus years scratching and surviving in Hollywood, I’ve always known it was a numbers game.

And when I first got here — in all my youthful enthusiasm and naivety — I embraced it…PA gigs here, short films there, submitting my screenplays and t.v. pilots into every competition like a mad woman.

Then, the rejections started rolling in. And application fees being as expensive as they are, I became more selective with my choices. Until eventually, exhausted from the grind and beaten down by the no’s, I stopped applying for anything.

For years, I was dormant. It wasn’t that I wasn’t writing (and producing, as it turns out.) I just purposely cocooned myself to hone my craft without the pressure of submitting.

And you know what happened? I fell in love with writing again and built up my confidence (and my bank account) just enough to begin applying for stuff.

And…I still got rejected. LOL!

In fact, this season, I applied for 10 opportunities — Three of which, I haven’t heard back from yet — and I got rejected by all, but ONE.

Still,  I can’t stop smiling. Why? Because YOU ONLY NEED ONE YES, FAM.

And this YES from the Producers Guild Of America Diversity Power Workshop is so perfect for me, because through this opportunity, I’ll build relationships with my classmates and learn from guest speakers and my mentors how to pitch and produce like a boss.

These are the EXACT tools I need to build my career as a writer-producer, Fam. And   it makes me think of a popular proverb: Give a man a fish, he’ll eat for a day. Teach a man to fish, he’ll eat for a lifetime.

Not to get all “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon” on you, but that’s the energy I’m bringing to the Producers Guild Of America Diversity Power Workshop, Fam.

Because…You only need is one YES. And you best believe, I’m gonna make the best of it.
