Fam, if you had told me a little more than a week ago that the next 8 days would help me grow in ways I never thought I could, I would have told you — Calm down. It’s just a trip to Morocco.
Yes, it was a special trip to celebrate Sistah’s 50th rotation around the sun. And yes, it was going to be my first time stepping foot on the Motherland.
But transformative? Life changing? Let’s not get carried away, OK?
Because first of all, the timing for this trip couldn’t have come at a more inconvenient time for me. If you’ve been following me, you know I’m launching my podcuseries, Works~N~Progress on April 9th. And in fact, I was posting the trailer and fine tuning the first episode right up until fighting through LA traffic to make it to the airport, hustle to the gate and not miss my flight.
So…I really had no time — or energy, if I’m being honest — to get excited about Morocco.
But the moment, I landed in Paris and saw Sistah, that all changed.
Some backstory — Sistah and I are nearly four years apart. And it’s no secret in my family that I wasn’t particularly enthused when she showed up in what I thought was my perfect toddler life.
I was momma’s first born, grandma’s first grand and granny’s first great-grand before we reunited with my late uncle’s only daughter years later.
So, to say I was living the life is an understatement. But apparently, my clingy love was too much for momma. So, without consulting me, she and daddy made Gina to be my playmate.
Talk about mad inconvenient.
She snored in the crib, stayed glued to my side and became my instant responsibility.
As a child and teenager, I was not happy about this. But it didn’t matter. Sistah wasn’t going anywhere. And as we’ve grown older and our roles continue to evolve and shift, I’m so glad she didn’t.
I have no idea who I would be or where I would be without her, Fam.
Sistah is my inconvenient blessing.
And I wouldn’t have visited the Motherland for the first time with anyone, but her.

We took so many pictures and videos, Fam! No way to share them all in one post. So, check out these first few and stay tuned to see more every day this week.
If you want more detail about each pic, check out my FB page.
Enjoy!
