My grandmother was dope.

Streetwise, stylish and numbers savvy, she was also a born-again ex-con who dropkicked drug addiction and taught me how to be a strong Black woman by any means necessary.

I loved her beyond life and that’s why I created Merry Paine, a fictionalized version of her, in my novel “Address: House of Corrections.”
