After publishing more than 60 books since 1990?
It stoked a flame in me I’ve been burning for so long.
With limited fuel.
Battling burnout.
Rebounding rejections.
So, when I tell you that I needed this gathering at Malik Books!
Thank you, Walter, for reminding me to remain grateful for my gift.
For showing me why it’s important to stay obedient to my craft for the culture.
But most importantly for personifying how to maintain my sense of wonder.
I’m a little Black girl from Detroit who still gets to live out her purpose as a writer every day.
It’s what I was born to do.
It’s what I get to do.
And for as long as I’m breathing, I’ll never stop doing it.
