My Birthday Blessings Continue!

Hey, Fam!

THANK YOU for all of the birthday love yaw been sending me!

To be honest, I have been so busy working (and in my feelings about business stuff I can’t control) that I wasn’t really in the mood to celebrate my birthday this year.

Then, my bestie, Karama, gifted me tickets to a screening of  William Greaves’ “Once Upon A Time in Harlem,” and maaan, enjoying this with Mr. Simms and my sister friends, Tracie and Vonda, was just what I needed!

To watch this amazing collective of artists, intellectuals and revolutionaries – many of whom hadn’t connected in five decades – argue, laugh, and wrestle with their cultural purpose in the  1972 landscape…

In Duke Ellington’s livingroom…

AND the drinks were flowing?

It transported me back to when I was child

Ear hustling grown folks

Fussing

Cackling

Falling out

While playing bid whist

And dranking E & J

Before making up

As they fix each other

a to-go plate.

“Once Upon A Time in Harlem,” Fam, was just the balm I needed to remind me from whence I come.

Then, they had a talkback after with Moonlight director, Barry Jenkins and William’s son David, who completed the doc 50 plus years later and I was blessed to met him!

Now. It ain’t my business to tell folks what to do.

But…

YAW ALL NEED TO SEE THIS DOCUMENTARY.

Especially with what is going on in our world today, this film is more important now more than ever.

And SHARE THE WORD.

“Once Upon A Time in Harlem” deserves an Oscar Nomination, Fam.

Let’s work together to help make it happen.

You won’t regret it. Trust.
