Multi-Hyphenates Unite!

Hi. My name is Monice. And I am a multi-hyphenate. 

I can say this with my full chest now, Fam, but excluding the last 7 or so years of my nearly 30 year career as a writer in Hollywood, I’ve been told to pick a lane. 

And trust, I’ve tried. But my brain and the stories that keep coming to me didn’t get the memo. 😁

So I’ve remained obedient to whatsomever forms my stories tell me they’re born to be and I make it do what it do. 

Up until recently, this was a very “I Am Legend” place to be, but now that Hollywood has imploded on itself and it needs storytellers that can write across genres, I’m not so alone anymore. 

Such was the case when I connected with #EddieRuiz and #MiguelDuran on #WorksNProgress, and Eddie impromptu shared the spoken word piece that inspired their TV pilot.

Not only was his piece honest, raw and moving, but it was the perfect example of how art inspires art. And I, a poet and former spoken word artist, couldn’t have been more thrilled.
