Fam, sometimes you’re blessed with a teacher that’s a force of nature. Mrs. Sophia Ellis was that for me and more.
Not only did she make learning German fun, she also expanded my world view of what a Black woman from Detroit could be.
And every time I speak to unsuspecting German people in their native tongue, it tickles me pink to see how shocked they are that a Black woman can speak German.
